EXPERT OPINION ON THE GMG
With the key points for a new Building Modernization Act (GMG), the coalition is making good on its promise to literally eradicate the errors in the GEG 2024. A development that many homeowners in Germany have been waiting for. But what about industrial production and logistics buildings used by trade and industry?
Thomas Kübler, an expert in the efficient and economical heating of hall buildings, summarizes the key points and provides an initial assessment for hall operators: ECKPUNKT 1 CLIMATE NEUTRALITY:
The German government is sticking to its goal of climate neutrality by 2045. The GMG is to come into force on 01.07.2026. The EU Buildings Directive (EPBD) will be implemented 1:1, making full use of national leeway.
EXPERT OPINION:
„The redesign means that forward-looking hall heating solutions are gaining in value in the eyes of politicians and the public. There is no longer just the supposedly „one“ heat pump solution. In future, operators will be much freer in their decisions, as long as they adhere to the framework parameters of gradual decarbonization. Efficiency is more important than ever, and functionality has gained in importance.“
CONCLUSIONS:
The political direction is now clearly defined. Those who continue to postpone investments run the risk of projects becoming significantly more expensive as the industry rebounds. Timing will also become more challenging as capacity utilization increases. Buying now is the most economical option for hall operators, as the political turning point is now clearly marked with the GMG cornerstones - heat pumps as the lead solution of the traffic light government with their low functionality in halls are now obsolete.
