Wait and see costs - GMG sends a clear investment signal
The German government has presented key points for a new Building Modernization Act (GMG), which is intended to readjust key provisions of the GEG 2024. While the debate has so far mainly concerned the residential sector, non-residential buildings are now also coming more into focus. Industrial production and logistics halls in particular raise specific issues.
Thomas Kübler, an expert in energy-efficient hall heating solutions, summarizes the key content and assesses its relevance for operators in the industrial and commercial sector.
CORNERSTONE 6 INVESTMENT SECURITY & PROMOTION:
The GMG puts an end to the investment-inhibiting wait-and-see attitude triggered by the previous law. The state BEG subsidy for climate-neutral heating solutions remains secured until at least 2029.
EXPERT OPINION:
„In principle, it is to be expected that all climate-neutral technologies will receive funding in the context of the GMG and no longer just heat pumps. No massive leaps in funding are to be expected in non-residential construction, as the federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG) is strongly geared towards social aspects - a line that is also likely to remain in place under the current government constellation with the SPD.“
CONCLUSIONS:
The regulatory framework has been defined with the GMG cornerstones. Further delays in investment decisions could lead to higher costs and longer implementation times in view of an expected market upturn. Prompt implementation therefore offers economic advantages. At the same time, the realignment of the legal framework creates greater flexibility in the choice of suitable heating technologies for hall buildings.
