„Have we become so complacent that we believe on our terraces with a Prosecco in our hands that everything is unfair in Germany and that the state alone is responsible for prosperity and growth in our country?" asks Axel Hellmann, CEO of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG, referring to the ARD survey conducted by Infratest dimap in April 2026.
In front of around 3,600 participants at the 2026 Business Day, he pleaded for more sporting spirit in the country: more enjoyment of performance, more responsibility, more desire to win.
„Germany has grown up with what we have in our heads - not with natural resources," said Carsten Linnemann, Secretary General of the CDU, succinctly summing up where the country's opportunities lie. He received a standing ovation for his keynote speech. „Linnemann was strong," could be heard in the corridors.
„Moving forward again: the courage to reform" - with this motto, the Business Day struck a chord with politicians and entrepreneurs alike. A lot has already happened: for example, the biggest tax reform in 20 years, changes in asylum policy and social policy adjustments.
However, it is equally clear that the economy is not yet where it should be - although the potential is there.
What is needed now, according to the Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, Dr. Markus Kamieth:
- more competitiveness
- Courage to implement
- A market for green transformation
„And innovations that are not regulated away, but can develop their benefits for the energy transition," adds Thomas Kübler, founder and partner of hall heating specialist KÜBLER.
He knows what we are talking about, as the industrial sector is one of the most important levers for transformation. In the sense of: „We have something in our heads. We have to learn to earn money with our skills again - and not with bureaucracy."
